MY APPROACH
I work in a way that is collaborative and bespoke to you and your needs, much of which is very practical. I want to help you learn more about yourself and to teach you skills and strategies you can take away from our therapy sessions and try out yourself.
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist. This means I use an integrated approach and combine two of the most powerful psychological therapies, evidence based hypnotherapy and low internsity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques. This means that your sessions with me will be completely tailored to your needs.
I am fully ensured and a member of a professional body (ACCPH). This means alongside following a professional code of ethics I also have a duty to be committed to Continued Professional Development and therefore my training is regularly updated as part of that membership.
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
There are a lot of myths and misconceptions out there about hypnosis and I can understand if people feel apprehensive about it. Don't worry though, you'll always be in complete control and I'm not going to make you cluck like a chicken!
Research shows that hypnotherapy, in combination with CBT methods can be more effective than CBT alone for many conditions. Hypnosis for therapy is also completely different to stage hypnosis and is absolutely nothing to do with mind control. Hypnosis is simply focused attention on an idea and most people find it incredibly relaxing and a helpful tool to overcome problems. During hypnotherapy you'll use your imagination in a way that feels similar to daydreaming, so it is incredibly simple but very powerful. I’ll use positive suggestions or ideas help you guide your imagination, evoke positive emotions and mentally rehearse or explore new ways of thinking/behaving. It's a very safe, you’ll only be able to take on suggestions you are comfortable with and you can stop at any time. Hypnotherapy is proven to be effective at helping with many issues, particularly useful for managing anxiety or stress, controlling pain, sleep problems, and conquering bad habits.
WHAT IS COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is based on the approach that our thoughts, feelings, behaviours are all connected, by changing one we can alter the others. CBT helps you identify negative patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving and helps you learn how to replace them with more helpful ones. I use CBT techniques to support your personal needs. I take a strong focus on teaching you skills and strategies to take away from the therapy session and apply to a whole range of situations and benefit your life as a whole.
If you are looking for support with suicidal thoughts or regression therapy then unfortuantely I am not the right therapist for you.
ONLINE THERAPY OR FACE TO FACE THERAPY?
You’ll have the same quality of therapy with me whether it’s online or in person and hypnotherapy is just as effective in an online environment. Some people find they have a personal preference for one over the other. I’m always happy to work in whatever way you prefer, and some clients even like a mix of face-to-face appointments and Zoom appointments.
