who can i help?
A therapy session with me can support you to work through lots of life's challenges, with the aim of getting you feeling like the best version of yourself. Below details some of the areas I can help you with but it's not an exhaustive list so if you need support with something that's not listed then please get in touch. I work with people with a diverse range of problems and you don't need to have hit rock bottom to ask for help, many people treat therapy as a form of maintenance for their mental health just as you might use a gym session as maintenance for your physical health. If you're after more information I've also added longer articles on my blog page here which you might be interested in reading too. Working ethically is very important to me and my skillset will not be right for everyone and everything, in which case I can refer you on to someone who may be a better fit for your specific needs. If you are looking for support with suicidal thoughts, clinical depression or regression therapy then unfortuantely I am not the right therapist for you.
Anxiety
Anxiety can affect different people in different ways. It can be something we've always struggled with, appeared suddenly or gradually crept up on us. Either way anxiety can feel overwhelming. Working together we'll look at your trigger situations, emotions, thoughts, and actions. We'll then work to develop practical strategies to help you face difficult situations more easily and with confidence in your new found abilities.
Stress
‘Stress’ is a catch-all term for the feelings you experience when life gets on top of you and you don’t think you can handle everything thrown at you. Prolonged stress can be corrosive on your mental and physical wellbeing. However, you have phenomenal capacity to cope with seemingly overwhelming situations, just as long as you have the right tools. We can work together to recognise the early warning signs of your stress and help you manage and divert it when you feel it coming.
Overcoming negative thought cycles
Becoming trapped in negative thought cycles is exhausting and if they've become a habit once you start that downward spiral it's sometimes impossible to escape. Using CBT techniques I can support you to identify you negative thought cycles, uncover their triggers and teach you tools to overcome and escape them.
Fertility support
Going through fertility treatment such as IVF can be both stressful and emotionally draining. Having had a personal IVF experience I am particularly passionate about supporting others through this difficult and often unpredictable time. I've undertaken specific training in areas such as stress management and resilience building and a specific hypnotherapy and psychotherapy for fertility treatment qualification.
insomnia
Sleep is one of the most critical components of maintaining good mental health and plays a crucial role in regulating mood and emotions. When we don't get enough sleep, we are more likely to experience irritability, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, and depression. Insomnia affects millions of people across the world and can have a huge impact on people’s quality of life. There are lots of ways we can work together to improve your quality of sleep.
Panic Attacks
Panic attacks happen when a person feels overwhelmed with intense anxiety and fear and can cause physical symptoms such as sweating, a rapid heart rate, trembling, and shortness of breath. They can be terrifying and leave you feeling completely out of control. Did you know that panic attacks are surprisingly common? Each year around 2-3% of the population will experience a panic attack and around 22% of people will experience one in their lifetime.
Confidence & Self-Esteem
Lack of confidence or low self esteem can hold us back from achieving our potential and goals. I can support you to realise your inner strength and self-belief. Some of the places you might benefit from this may include: Social situations, your workplace, managing exam pressures, public speaking events as well as supporting you to avoid procrastination and so much more.
Relaxation
When was the last time you felt completely relaxed? Modern life is hectic and sometimes it feels like we just can't switch off. A therapy session for relaxation is time for you to do just that, switch off and take some time to alow yourself to feel mentally restored and rechanged. By learning relaxation skills and practising them you will learn how to relax in a few seconds when facing a stressful situation.
Perfectionism
Perfectionism is often overlooked when it comes to our mental health, people often see it as a strength, a sign we want to do things well. But it's possible to work effectively without being a perfectionist. Perfectionism is also often a trigger and a maintaining factor to more commonly recognised mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
phobias
Phobias can restrict you from living your life to your full potential. While a fear can seem illogical and irrational, please be assured that as a trained therapist, no phobia or fear is a surprise. Whatever your phobia there will likely be a cure or significant improvement for it to give you an improved quality of life.
